The trailer for the much-anticipated Kannada film ‘Firefly’, produced by Niveditha Shivarajkumar, was officially launched earlier this week at the residence of her father, Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar (Shivanna). The film, which has already generated significant buzz through its teasers and songs, is slated for theatrical release on April 24th, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the legendary Dr. Rajkumar (Annavaru).
The intimate trailer launch event was attended by the entire ‘Firefly’ team, along with Shivarajkumar and his wife, Geetha Shivarajkumar, who offered their blessings and support to the emerging talents behind the project.
Speaking at the event, Shivarajkumar expressed immense pride in his daughter’s first production venture. “I am very happy my daughter has made this film. I heard the story and found it unique; it immediately touched my heart,” he shared. “The film explores valuable subjects, going beyond just fights and songs. Vamshi has crafted a good story, and a talented team has worked on it.” He praised Charan Raj’s music and emphasized his desire for new talent and fresh perspectives in Kannada cinema. “They are the ones who must carry our language and culture forward. How the movie performs is secondary; the effort is what matters,” he stated, adding, “I have also acted in this film, and these young talents have made me look even younger.”
Geetha Shivarajkumar echoed the sentiment, encouraging audiences to support the new team’s fresh attempt. She also extended gratitude to Kumar, who is handling the film’s distribution. “Niveditha and her father both loved the story when Vamshi narrated it, and that has led us here today,” she added.
Producer Niveditha Shivarajkumar expressed her excitement, stating, “This is my first film, and I am thrilled it’s releasing on my grandfather’s birthday.” Addressing the topic of audience attendance, she confidently remarked, “People ask why audiences aren’t coming to Kannada films. If we give them good cinema, they will definitely come. ‘Firefly’ releases on April 24th – please watch it in theatres.”
‘Firefly’ marks the directorial and lead acting debut for Vamshi. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Sudharani, Rachana Inder, Achyuth Kumar, Moogu Suresh, and Sheetal Shetty, among others. The technical team features Jayaram as co-director, Abhilash Kalatthi handling cinematography, Charan Raj composing the music, and Raghu Niduvalli penning the dialogues.
One of the trailer’s highlights, generating considerable curiosity, is Shivarajkumar’s special appearance as ‘The King’s Pizza Boy’. While the moniker ‘King’ is fitting for the beloved star, the filmmakers tease that audiences will have to watch the movie to discover the story behind this intriguing role.
