Premada Oorali is rewriting the rules of Kannada cinema’s box office. What began as a modest release with just 60 shows has grown into a statewide theatrical phenomenon, with trade estimates projecting a staggering ₹250 crore gross and ₹150 crore distributor share in Karnataka alone. Distributors tracking the film say it has established a new benchmark for the industry, with no signs of slowing down.
The extraordinary performance is evident in individual theatres. A single-screen theatre with a weekly rent of ₹70,000 has reportedly collected ₹14–15 lakh in ticket sales. In Madhugiri, a theatre paying ₹1.5 lakh in weekly rent has collected ₹60 lakh over four weeks. In Davangere alone, the distributor share is expected to cross ₹5 crore. These are not isolated success stories. Hundreds of similar instances are emerging from single-screen theatres across Karnataka, many of which have witnessed business on a scale they have not seen in years.
More than 60 single-screen theatres that had remained shut for months, with some closed for nearly a year, have reopened to screen the film. Its reach extends to remote border regions where even major Kannada star vehicles have struggled to draw audiences in recent years.
According to distributors tracking the film, Premada Oorali has already surpassed KGF: Chapter 2, Kantara and Kantara: Chapter 1 in footfalls. It has also established itself as the undisputed Industry Hit across Karnataka’s B and C centres. The comparison is more nuanced in A centres, where KGF: Chapter 2 and Kantara: Chapter 1 benefited from exceptionally high ticket prices during their opening weeks and continue to hold an advantage in some markets.
However, with its collections continuing to grow, Premada Oorali is projected to challenge those records as well. Distributors directly involved in the film may not disclose the full picture, but independent trade observers tracking its performance are unequivocal about its significance.
With a projected ₹250-crore gross and ₹150-crore share from Karnataka alone, Premada Oorali is not merely a surprise blockbuster. It is setting a new standard for box-office success in Sandalwood.
