The latest song from Kannada film ‘Common Man’, Yede Moole Mooleyolage, appears to have found an immediate connect with listeners. A soulful number built around emotions that linger in the deepest corners of the heart, the song brings together the voices of Javed Ali and Shruthi Prahlad, with music by Vinay Chandra and lyrics by Sai Sarvesh.
What works for the song is the balance between its words and melody. Sai Sarvesh’s lyrics keep the emotion uncomplicated, while Vinay Chandra’s composition gives the singers enough space to carry the mood. Javed Ali’s familiar textured voice, complemented by Shruthi Prahlad, lends the song a distinct romantic quality. The response to the track has made it one of the talking points as the film heads towards its release.
Music is clearly being used to bring different shades to Common Man. The film has four songs in contrasting styles, which were launched recently by actor Vinod Prabhakar, veteran actress and MLC Umashree, veteran actor Ramesh Bhat and actress Priyanka Upendra.
Another number, Nanna Hesaru Saniya, takes a completely different route. Sung by Chaitra J. Achar and Vinay Chandra, the peppy song, also written by Sai Sarvesh, is aimed squarely at the younger audience. The soundtrack also features a patriotic number, which was launched by Ramesh Bhat. The film’s songs have voices ranging from Chaitra J. Achar to Kailash Kher and Baba Sehgal, adding variety to the album.
The music comes against the backdrop of an unusual premise. Common Man asks what could happen if an ordinary citizen were to become the Chief Minister of a state. The story explores the challenges he encounters and the changes he attempts to bring about in the system.
Social worker Dr. N. Narasimha Murthy has written the story and produced the film under the Surabhi Films banner. Veteran filmmaker Om Sai Prakash has written the screenplay and directed the film, which marks his 106th directorial venture.
Gowrishankar SRG plays the protagonist, with Sona Ladva as the female lead. Veteran actor Ashok plays the Governor, while the supporting cast includes Ganeshrao Kesarkar, Escort Srinivas and Prakash Thumminad. J.G. Krishna and Deepak Kumar are the cinematographers and Thriller Manju has handled the action.
With its social theme complemented by a soundtrack that is already drawing attention, Common Man is set for a statewide theatrical release on September 25.
