Duniya Vijay’s directorial venture ‘City Lights’ releases its third song, blending traditional folk music with a contemporary rap flavour.
Vijay Kumar, popularly known as Duniya Vijay, is gearing up for the release of his third directorial venture, City Lights. Starring Vinay Rajkumar in the lead, the film is slated to hit theatres across Karnataka on September 18.
After creating a buzz with its first two songs, City Lights has now unveiled its third track, ‘Kendadokuli Gandana’, which brings together the earthy flavour of folk music and the contemporary energy of rap.
Known for giving a fresh spin to folk and tribal music, Duniya Vijay has once again gone back to traditional roots for the song. Drawing from the folk verses associated with Madappa, the makers have given the traditional lyrics a modern musical treatment to suit current trends.
Folk artiste and Kamsale performer Dhanush has lent his voice to ‘Kendadokuli Gandana’, while the rap portions have been performed by Amogh Balaji. Music for City Lights has been composed by Charan Raj.
The film also marks the acting debut of Monisha Vijay Kumar, Duniya Vijay’s younger daughter, who makes her entry into Sandalwood as the female lead. The shooting has been completed and the film is currently in the post-production stage.
Speaking at the song launch, Vinay Rajkumar said that City Lights revolves around two innocent individuals who unexpectedly find themselves in the city and the challenges and twists they encounter along the way.
“Two innocent people unexpectedly arrive in the city, and the challenges they face and the twists that unfold in their lives form the crux of the story. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to feature a Madappa folk song and shoot it at Male Mahadeshwara Hills,” he said.
Sharing her experience of making her acting debut, Monisha said she underwent acting training in London to understand the nuances of the craft.
“My father has given me a very different role. I underwent acting training in London to learn the nuances of acting, and I have put in my best efforts to do justice to the character,” she said.
For Duniya Vijay, directing a member of the Rajkumar family is a moment of immense pride. “I grew up watching Dr Rajkumar’s films. Today, getting the opportunity to direct his grandson and call ‘action’ and ‘cut’ is a great honour and brings me immense happiness,” said Vijay Kumar.
The film reunites the successful team of Duniya Vijay, composer Charan Raj and dialogue writer Masti, who previously collaborated on Salaga and Bheema. The film’s earlier releases, ‘Kandamma’ and the rap track ‘Baava Baava’, have already received a positive response from audiences.
Produced jointly by Vijay Kumar and Vikram Arya, City Lights is being distributed by KVN Productions, the banner behind several major upcoming big-budget films including KD, Jana Nayagan and Toxic.
