Kannada cinema received a major boost at the National Film Awards, with Mithya, produced by actor-director Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Pictures in association with KRG Studios, winning three National Awards.
The winners were selected by an 11-member jury headed by filmmaker Jayaraj, which reviewed hundreds of films from across the country certified by the Central Board of Film Certification between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
Written and directed by Sumanth Bhat, Mithya emerged as one of the biggest winners from Karnataka, earning recognition in multiple categories. The film won the Best Kannada Feature Film award, while Roopashree Varkadi shared the Best Supporting Actress honour for her performance in the film. Child actor Atish S. Shetty also received the Best Child Artist award for his role in Mithya.
Tulu cinema also made its mark at the awards, with Shivadhwaj Shetty’s Imbu, produced under the Pitcher Studios banner, winning the Best Tulu Feature Film award.
The multiple honours for Mithya underline the growing national recognition for Kannada cinema, while Imbu’s success highlights the increasing prominence of Tulu films on the national stage.
